Comscore has published its AI Intelligence Report for the second quarter of 2026. The report measures what share of all questions ("prompts") to AI chatbots in the US go to the various services.

The figures show that ChatGPT's share fell from 70 percent in January to 50 percent in June 2026. At the same time, Google Gemini grew from 17 to 30 percent, while Claude from Anthropic rose to 11 percent.

In other words, ChatGPT is still used the most, but the two competitors are taking a bigger and bigger bite of the market. According to Comscore, the development is due to more ordinary users now testing and using several different AI tools, instead of sticking to just one service when they search for information or need to solve tasks.

The figures are based on how many conversations users have on desktop computers. Here, ChatGPT reached 168 million conversations in June 2026, while the number of users visiting several AI services grew from 59 to 99 million in a year. Gemini went from 8 to 89 million desktop conversations in the same period, and Claude's conversations rose from 1.1 million in October 2025 to 22.3 million in June 2026.

For ordinary users, the development means the market for AI chatbots is no longer a one-man show with ChatGPT in front. Competition pushes the companies to constantly improve their products, which is typically good news for consumers, who get more and better free or cheap alternatives to choose from.

Comscore stresses, however, that ChatGPT remains the most used AI chatbot in the US, even though its share has fallen significantly in six months.
