Google, NVIDIA and Mistral pledge AI tools and computing power to researchers

The European Commission has received the first pledges from companies and foundations that will give European researchers access to AI models, computing power and data. The pledges are the contributors' own promises, and their combined value has not been disclosed.

The European Commission launched a so-called pledging initiative under RAISE on October 15, 2026. It allows businesses and philanthropic organizations to commit resources to researchers who use AI in their work. The initiative was launched in Dublin in connection with the European AI in Science Summit.
RAISE stands for Resource for AI Science in Europe and is described by the Commission as a virtual research institute that brings together computing power, data, talent and research funding. The pilot phase was launched at a summit in Copenhagen on November 3-4, 2025.
What has been pledged?
Contributions can include AI models, computing power, research software, datasets, training or financial support. The Commission's page lists seven initial pledges:
- Google has pledged $3 million in Google Cloud credits and direct access to Google DeepMind's scientific models. According to Unite.AI, Google announced the day before that up to 200 European researchers will get access to models such as AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext and AlphaGenome. - NVIDIA has pledged AI software, models, training, technical expertise and pathways to computing power. The company itself describes five pledges and mentions partnerships with European AI factories in France, Spain and Sweden. - Mistral AI has pledged open-weight models (models whose internal structure is publicly available), API credits and PhD internships. - Novo Nordisk Foundation is providing access to Gefion, a supercomputer built for AI, for large and secure computations. - Elsevier has pledged licenses for LeapSpace, the clinical tool ClinicalKey AI and access to scientific content. - Frontiers has pledged AI-based curation of 1,000 Horizon Europe datasets, along with more than EUR 1.6 million in data services and grants for early-career researchers. - Sanofi is contributing its Future4Care ecosystem, which supports startups and researchers in AI-driven health innovation.
Money and caveats
The pledges are the companies' and foundations' own promises and have not been independently verified. The value of most of them has not been disclosed, and the Commission does not state a combined value.
The pledging initiative supplements the public RAISE budget and is not new public funding. According to the Commission, the pilot's budget is EUR 107 million from Horizon Europe, plus EUR 600 million for access to computing power. The Commission also plans to double Horizon Europe's annual AI investments to more than EUR 3 billion.
