Luma Dream Machine: How AI turns your words into video
AI-generated and checked against the sources listed below.
Luma AI's tool Dream Machine creates video from a text description or an image. Here is what it can do and how to get started.

Dream Machine is an AI tool from the company Luma AI that makes it possible to create short video clips from either a text description or a still image. If you write, for example, "a dog running on a beach at sunset," the AI tries to turn the sentence into a video with realistic motion, lighting and camera movement.
The tool can also be used the other way around: Upload an image, and the AI "animates" it forward so the subject starts moving. The clips are typically 5-10 seconds long, and Luma AI especially highlights that the movements follow the laws of physics, so objects don't float around the frame for no reason, something many early AI videos have struggled with.
How to try it
Dream Machine can be tried for free on Luma AI's website with no technical prerequisites. You write your prompt or upload an image, and the video is typically ready within a couple of minutes.
The free version does have limitations, though: You can only create a limited number of videos per day, the quality is lower, and the clips get a watermark. If you want to get rid of the watermark and have access to more, faster and more commercial use, it requires a paid subscription starting at around $10 a month, equivalent to roughly DKK 65-70.
What it means for you
Dream Machine is one of several AI tools that in a short time have made it possible for regular users to create video content without a camera, actors or editing software. It can be fun to experiment with, but it also raises questions about how, in the future, we will tell the difference between real footage and AI-generated video as the technology becomes more widespread and the clips longer and more detailed.
The tool is free to try, so the easiest way to form an impression is to try a single prompt yourself and see what the result is.
