Grok's AI version of the Odyssey has now been released as a first episode of just over seven minutes. It is only a fraction of the feature-length film Elon Musk promised in July.

Elon Musk's AI tool Grok Imagine has released the first episode of an AI-generated version of Homer's Odyssey. According to Comic Basics, the episode was posted to Grok Imagine's account on X on October 23, 2026. It runs just over seven minutes and is in 4K, meaning very high image quality.
Musk shared the episode on X himself with the caption 'Odyssey with Grok Imagine'. According to TechCrunch, it is credited as a collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker.
A promise from July
On July 22, 2026, Musk wrote on X that by the end of the year Grok Imagine would make a feature-length film of the Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to Homer's artistry. At the same time, he shared a three-minute AI short film on the same subject made by another user on X.
According to Variety, the promise came in the wake of Musk's criticism of Christopher Nolan's Odyssey film, including the casting of Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy.
When the first episode came out, about two months of 2026 remained. Seven minutes is therefore only a small part of a feature-length film. The sources do not say whether or when more episodes or a full film will be released.
Criticism of the result
Comic Basics writes that the episode has an entirely white cast, which the outlet says contrasts with Musk's earlier criticism of Nolan's casting choices. The outlet also points out that only Odysseus is named in the episode, and that "historical accuracy" is hard to measure for a mythological work. In addition, getting AI video to look consistent from scene to scene across an entire film is a technical challenge.
TechCrunch compares it with Nolan's nearly three-hour film, which was made with practical filmmaking, and quotes a reviewer saying that Grok's version lacks artistic sense, inspiration and human interest.
By comparison, according to Comic Basics, Nolan's "The Odyssey" has grossed over $600 million in the US and $1.79 billion globally.
