OpenAI launches $500 ChatGPT plan with ultrafast coding
AI-generated and checked against the sources listed below.
OpenAI's new Pro 500 subscription costs $500 a month and is the only plan that gives access to Ultrafast, a coding mode in Codex that is up to eight times faster.

What's new
OpenAI has launched a new ChatGPT subscription that costs $500 a month, equivalent to around DKK 3,500. The plan is called Pro 500 and was presented at the company's developer conference DevDay on September 29, 2026. It is the most expensive plan OpenAI has ever offered, $300 above the previous most expensive plan at $200.
At the same time, OpenAI is tightening the terms for the existing $200 plan, Pro 200. From October 29, 2026, the usage limit drops from 20 to 10 times what you get with the cheap Plus plan at $20 a month. The number of weekly messages to the advanced model GPT-6 Pro is halved from 200 to 100. Current Pro 200 subscribers will, however, get a one-time bonus of $2,500 in usage credit as a consolation.
What's clever
What's entirely new with Pro 500 is access to Ultrafast mode, an extra-fast operating mode for the GPT-6 Astra model. In the coding tool Codex, Ultrafast can generate up to 300 tokens (pieces of text, the AI's building blocks for words) per second, which is up to eight times faster than normal speed. This means programmers can get answers and code suggestions almost instantly instead of waiting.
Pro 500 also gives the highest usage limit of all OpenAI's plans, so you can work longer in both Codex and ChatGPT Work before the quota runs out.
Cheaper or better?
It is certainly not cheaper: $500 a month is 25 times the price of the regular Plus plan. On the other hand, it is the only subscription where you can get Ultrafast speed. Even if you buy extra usage credit for the cheaper $100 or $200 plans, it does not unlock Ultrafast; it is reserved for the top plan.
There is no direct price comparison with competitors in the sources, but Pro 500 is now the most expensive chatbot plan from one of the major AI companies. So it is a plan for very heavy users and businesses, not ordinary individuals.
An important caveat for Danish and European companies: Ultrafast only supports data processing in the US. There is no EU version yet, so companies that require data to stay in Europe cannot use the feature.
What it's good at
Pro 500 is tailored to professional programmers and companies that use Codex intensively to write, fix and test code at scale. The high speed and generous usage limits make the plan an obvious fit for teams working on so-called agentic tasks, where the AI carries out many steps in a row on its own and quickly calls other tools several times per second. Here, answers that are eight times faster can make a real difference in how quickly a project gets done.
