During the UN General Assembly, several world leaders and tech executives warned about the dangers of artificial intelligence and called for common rules. The US, however, rejects international regulation of the technology.

Artificial intelligence (computer programs that can learn and solve tasks that normally require human thinking) has taken up a lot of space during the UN General Assembly in New York.
Throughout the day, several heads of government repeated both hopes and concerns about what the technology could come to mean for the world.
Call for cooperation
Both foreign ministers and heads of government from several countries called for the world's countries to work together on common rules for AI. The idea is that by working together, they can steer the development so the technology does not become dangerous or out of control.
Executives from major tech companies also warned about the risks of AI and pointed to the need for a firmer grip on the technology.
US says no thanks
While many countries are calling for global regulation, the US maintains that it does not want international rules for AI. The country thus does not believe that creating common, worldwide rules for the technology is the way forward.
The disagreement means there is still no prospect of a unified international agreement on how artificial intelligence should be governed and limited.
