Google opens Gemini for Home so telecoms can build on it

Google has opened its home AI to service providers and hardware makers. U.S. carrier AT&T is cited as an example of a company already using it in a security service.

Google announced on its developer blog on May 21, 2026, that Gemini for Home will become a unified AI platform for service providers, such as telecoms and security firms, and for hardware makers. Gemini is Google's AI assistant, and Gemini for Home is the version designed to manage and explain what is happening in the home.
What the platform can do
According to Google, the platform includes three things. Camera intelligence delivers notifications that take context into account. The Ask Home feature lets users ask questions about the household. Home Brief summarizes hours of sensor and video data in a daily overview.
Techstrong.ai writes that providers can use it for services such as daily home summaries, automations for empty homes and alerts about visitors and deliveries.
AT&T as an example
Google describes U.S. carrier AT&T as one of the first. According to Google, AT&T is already using Google Home APIs (technical connections between programs) to build Gemini features into its Connected Life app and its security service. AT&T combines Google's camera intelligence with its own LTE backup, so security can continue over the cellular network.
The trade publication SecurityInfoWatch writes that AT&T returned to home security at CES 2026 with Connected Life. It uses Google's Nest cameras and the company Abode for professional monitoring, in place of AT&T's earlier in-house Digital Life offering. Abode handles round-the-clock monitoring, alarm verification and dispatch, while AT&T's network provides backup connectivity and location awareness.
Connected Life can be installed by customers themselves, with no technician visit. According to SecurityInfoWatch, it is available across the U.S. to AT&T wireless customers and works with internet from AT&T or other providers. Financing is offered through Affirm.
Brian Brower, AT&T's assistant vice president of product innovation, says: "We can take network intelligence as a foundation and work with someone who is world class in video, like Google."
New speaker designs too
Google is also expanding its Gemini Built In program for hardware partners with reference designs from companies including Amlogic, SEI Robotics and Apical. This includes new smart speaker designs for 2026 with the full Gemini voice experience.
The sources do not say what Connected Life costs, or exactly which Gemini features AT&T's customers can use now and when the rest will roll out.
