Adobe adds AI video models directly to Premiere Pro

Adobe has updated Premiere Pro so you can type a text prompt and get a video clip or sound effect straight into your timeline. The update can also create a first draft of a video from a transcript.

Adobe has shipped a major update to its video editing software Premiere Pro. The update is version 26.5 and was shown at the big TV and film trade show IBC in Amsterdam in September.
The headline feature is a tool called Generative Media Tool. You can type what your video is missing, such as a short transition or the sound of a forest, and the tool creates the clip directly in the timeline. You no longer need to open another program or browser tab to fetch the clip afterward.
The new tool is built on several different AI models. According to media coverage, Adobe has built access to models such as Firefly (Adobe's own model), Google's Veo, as well as Runway, Kling and Luma directly into the program. That means you can pick the model best suited to the task without leaving Premiere.
Another new feature is called Paper Edit. It can create a first draft of a video from a transcript of the speech in the clips. You mark the sentences you want to keep, and Premiere assembles them into a new sequence. That can save time when editing interviews or podcasts, where most of the work is about picking the right quotes.
Adobe has also improved Generative Extend, which lengthens a clip that is too short. It now works at more resolutions, from 360p up to 4K, and in all aspect ratios.
Material created with Firefly can be used commercially, because Adobe calls the model safe to use in professional work. That matters for Danish companies and agencies that need to be able to stand behind the content they publish.
The update requires a Premiere Pro subscription and is part of Adobe's ongoing updates to the program, which many Danish schools, media houses and companies already use.
What it means for you
If you already use Premiere Pro, you can now save time by typing your way to short video clips and sound effects instead of hunting for them elsewhere. If you work with interviews or podcasts, Paper Edit can give you a quick first draft that you just need to polish. If you are an agency or business, you can safely use Firefly material commercially. Remember that you need a Premiere Pro subscription to access the new features.
