Planner is Microsoft's app for keeping track of tasks and projects, and it's used by many Danish workplaces to divide work among colleagues. Now it's getting easier to use, because Copilot can take care of some of the work for you.

From September 2026, you can write to Copilot's chat in plain language and ask it to create a task, update an existing task or ask what's actually on your list. You can, for example, ask Copilot to show your most important tasks or what needs to be done this week, without opening Planner and looking for it yourself.

Right now, the tasks are shown as plain text in the chat. Microsoft has announced that a more visual task card will come later, making it easier to get an overview at a glance.

The feature builds on Planner Agent, a Copilot-based chat helper in Planner itself, which until now has only been available in the more expensive, so-called premium plans. With the update, the same type of AI help is also coming to the free, basic plans that many smaller teams already use. Microsoft says the feature will roll out broadly during September 2026.

All the permissions and access rights that already apply in Planner carry over unchanged. If a colleague doesn't already have access to a task list, they won't get it just because Copilot is involved.

For Danish workplaces, it may be worth trying the feature on a smaller task list first, so you can see whether Copilot's task suggestions hit the mark or need to be adjusted afterward.

What it means for you

If you use Planner at work, from September 2026 you can ask Copilot to create and find tasks instead of clicking around the app yourself. This also applies if you use a free plan, so smaller teams get the same benefit as those with more expensive subscriptions. You only get access to what you already have rights to, so it doesn't change who can see what. Try it on a smaller task list first, so you can check whether Copilot's suggestions are on target.
