OpenAI adds bank executives to its board and launches small business program
AI-generated and checked against the sources listed below.
OpenAI has brought two top executives from the financial world onto its board and launched a ChatGPT program to help small businesses get started with AI.

What is new
On July 21, 2026, there were two pieces of news from OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The first concerns leadership. David Vélez, founder and CEO of the large Latin American digital bank Nubank, and Robin Vince, CEO of the US bank BNY, have joined the boards of both the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group PBC. Vince previously spent 26 years at Goldman Sachs and will chair the audit committee. That is the committee that oversees accounting and controls.
The second piece of news is the ChatGPT for small businesses program. It consists of online courses, in-person workshops in the US, guides, short videos and customer stories. Partners such as Shopify, Intuit, Dropbox, Slack, Atlassian and Wix contribute courses and offers.
What is clever
The board appointments are a signal about the stock market. According to Bloomberg, OpenAI is considering an IPO as early as 2027. People with banking and accounting experience on the board should make the company more reassuring to investors and regulators.
The small business program builds on ChatGPT Work, an AI agent that can carry out multi-step tasks across your files and programs. That could be, for example, gathering receipts for the accounts or creating a campaign. The program shows concretely how it works in accounting, marketing and e-commerce. OpenAI highlights figures from earlier workshops: 78 percent built a working AI workflow in one day, and 42 percent saved more than five hours a week. These are OpenAI's own figures.
Cheaper or better?
This is not a new model, so there are no speed measurements or benchmarks to compare. The price of the program is not stated in what I have been able to find. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Work is available to businesses of all sizes and on all plans. The partners promise special offers, but we do not know their size.
Compared with competitors, we do not see any direct response here. The program is a way to get more small companies to choose ChatGPT over alternatives. If you run a small business, it is first and foremost free help to get started.
Remember that the launch is aimed at the US. Nothing has been said about when or whether workshops and offers will come to Denmark or the rest of the EU. The online resources, which are open to everyone, may still be useful here at home.
What it is good at
The program suits owners of small companies without their own IT department who want to save time on accounting, marketing, web shops and email. It is especially useful if you already use Shopify, Intuit, Slack or Dropbox, because the partners create ready-made recipes for those programs.
The board news is most interesting for those following the economics behind AI. It says that OpenAI is moving from startup to IPO-ready company. For ordinary users, it changes nothing in daily life, but it may eventually mean more focus on a stable business and greater demands for transparency.
