At its big Dreamforce conference, Salesforce has shown a major update to the communication app Slack, where artificial intelligence can now answer questions about company data, write code and make videos. At the same time, Google and Salesforce are linking their AI systems more closely.

Slack, which many companies use for internal chat instead of email, is getting a major update with artificial intelligence. That's what Salesforce, which owns Slack, showed at the company's big Dreamforce conference this week.

AI in shared channels

The most significant change is that Slackbot, Slack's built-in AI assistant (a program that can answer questions and carry out tasks), can now be pulled directly into regular channels. The whole team can thus work with the AI in the same conversation, instead of asking it privately.

Slackbot can also pull data from Salesforce, a system many companies use to keep track of customers and sales. If you ask, the AI can build a live dashboard or a report directly in a channel, based on the company's own numbers. The feature is called Slackforce Surfaces and is available now.

New features on the way

Other news includes Slack Code, where employees and AI agents (AI programs that can carry out several steps on their own) from OpenAI, Anthropic and GitHub, among others, can write and review code together in special channels. There's also a full-screen mode called Big Mode for deeper tasks, as well as plans to let you talk to Slackbot with your voice later this year and have it make short video clips.

The features are typically part of Slack's more expensive subscriptions, Business+ and Enterprise+, which according to Slack's own price list cost from around DKK 100 per user per month and up, depending on the agreement. Some features also require extra payment through what Slack calls Flex Credits. The sources don't mention a specific Danish launch date, but Slack and Salesforce are already widely used by Danish companies, and the updates are rolling out globally.

Partnership with Google Cloud

At the same time, Salesforce has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud. The two companies' AI systems, Google's Gemini Enterprise and Salesforce's Agentforce, are being connected, so AI agents can more easily retrieve and use data across the two platforms going forward without companies having to build heavy technical solutions themselves. Some parts of the partnership are available now, while others won't arrive until during 2026 and 2027.

For the ordinary employee, the news first and foremost means that Slack will increasingly look like a place where you both chat and get answers from the company's data and AI tools in the same window, instead of switching between several programs.

What it means for you

If your workplace uses Slack, you'll be able to ask questions about sales figures and customer data directly in the chat, without switching to other programs. If you work with code, the new coding features can make it easier to collaborate with AI on tasks. Most of the features do require one of the more expensive subscriptions, though, so it's worth checking with your IT department whether your company has access. Also watch whether your Salesforce data gets connected with Google tools if you use both systems.
